Spinal Flow Technique

®

A gentle, nervous-system-based approach to help your body release accumulated stress and reconnect with its natural capacity for ease.

Spinal Flow Technique® was developed by Dr. Carli Axford, a former chiropractor in Australia. Drawing on more than 20 years of study, clinical observation, and experience with the spine and the nervous system, her work has impacted lives around the world and inspired my own path to becoming a Spinal Flow practitioner.

The gentle approach works with the spine and nervous system to support the release of accumulated physical, emotional, and chemical stress. Rather than forcing the body to change, this work creates the conditions for the body to listen, respond, and begin to soften what it has been holding. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

The Seven Gatways

Through light contact on designated Spinal Flow access points within the seven gateways, the technique works with the spine and nervous system to bring awareness to areas of tension, stress and disconnection. The system includes 33 access points in total.

The intention is to support the nervous system in moving from prolonged patterns of stress and protection toward greater regulation, rest, and recovery.

These gateways correspond with different regions of the spine and provide a framework for understanding the body as a connected whole. â€‹Each gateway offers a different lens into how the body may be responding to stress, allowing the session to be guided by what is present in the body at that moment.

Why the Spine?

The brain and spinal cord form the central nervous system, an extraordinary communication network connecting the brain with the rest of the body.

Throughout life, we encounter many forms of stress: physical injuries and trauma, environmental and chemical stressors, and emotional experiences. When stress becomes persistent or overwhelming, the body may develop patterns of tension, guarding, and restriction. Over time, these patterns may influence how we move, breathe, rest, and feel.

Spinal Flow Technique® looks beyond the location of symptoms to explore deeper patterns of stress and tension held along the spine. By working with these areas, the intention is to address what may be contributing to the body's protective patterns, postural imbalances and restrictions rather than where the pain is felt. In this way, the work seeks to move closer to the underlying pattern while supporting the body's natural capacity for greater ease, connection and flow.

Returning to Flow â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

At its heart, Spinal Flow Technique® is about reconnecting with the body's inherent wisdom and natural capacity for healing. Instead of simply chasing symptoms, we listen to what the body may be communicating beneath them.

What to Expect

Sessions are primarily received lying face down, however, positioning can be comfortably adapted to side-lying or seated to support your individual needs. You will lie comfortably on the table while specific spinal access points are contacted using light touch. There is no forceful manipulation or cracking. Some clients notice subtle movement, warmth, emotional release, muscle twitches, or deep relaxation as the body responds. The practitioner's touch may be subtle but the effects are profound.

How to Prepare

✓ Wear comfortable clothing

✓ Stay hydrated

✓ Avoid rushing to your appointment

✓ Give yourself a few quiet moments before arriving

✓ Come curious rather than expecting a specific outcome

What You May Notice Afterward

You may feel lighter, calmer, more energized, or deeply relaxed. Some people sleep better, experience improved digestion, or notice reduced tension throughout the body. Healing responses vary, and your body may continue integrating changes over the next several days.
